Has your site rankings improved, or have you seen negative or zero change?  Google confirms rumours of a new search algorithm update that took place on April 16th 2018.

Posting on Twitter Google confirmed rumours that they had completed a ‘routine’ broad update on Monday 16th April 2018. Every year Google carries out several updates, some of these updates are broad updates while others focus on specific improvements.

Some are focused around specific improvements. Some are broad changes. Last week, we released a broad core algorithm update.

How will this impact your website?

Your website may have seen some gains in organic ranking with Google stating that some pages that have been previously under rewarded sites would see a benefit from the core update.  Other sites may have dropped in ranking with Google commenting that “there’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well. Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded”

What can I do to improve my sites rankings?

The advise from Google:

“There’s no “fix” for pages that may perform less well, other than to remain focused on building great content. Over time, it may be that your content may rise relative to other pages”
